My Logo Design Process:

A good logo takes time to develop and cannot be produced in 1 hour. So when someone asks me to design a logo for $50.00, I tell them it's impossible to get something worthwhile. There are many logo 'factories' online what will generate a generic logo for you very quickly, but the end result is usually not a good one.

Here is what a logo should do for you:

  1. A logo is the very first impression people get of your company.
  2. A logo needs longevity.
  3. A logo needs to be original.
  4. A logo should look professional.
  5. A logo should reflect the time and thought gone in to designing it.
  6. A logo is the starting point of your whole corporate image.

The achieve the above, it is impossible for a quick fix logo to do the trick. Designers work for app. $50-$120 per hour so you can do the math on the total amount required to do a good job.

Any logo design goes through the following process:

brief

The design brief consists of an interview with the client or having the client fill out a form highlighting their needs. This helps me get a feel for what they are looking for.

research

I conduct research focused on the industry itself, on its history, and on the competitors. Your logo has to fit into the industry it was meant for.

reference

Conduct research into logo designs that have been successful and current styles and trends that are related to the design brief. I take your needs into consideration but I also want to present you with a well designed logo.

sketching

This is where I develop the logo design concept(s) around the brief and research. This is usually a pen and paper process and can take a long time. I try as many ideas as needed until I have one that 'pops out' from all the rest. That's the one I'll put on computer and make further modifications.

reflection

I take breaks throughout the design process. This lets the ideas mature and I also get renewed enthusiasm. I also ask others about the logo to see if it's a quality logo. I value popular opinion and the logo you will see is usually well received by the general public.

presentation

I present you with the best logo(s) of choice in hopes that you will like it. If further changes are required, they are completed in a timely manner.

celebration

Do something else for fun and/or Spend time with my family. Also get started on the next project which is also fun!
